April is “Autism Awareness” month in which we are participating with the Township in the “Light it up Blue” campaign. The PTA has sold blue lights to parents and staff to exhibit the support of our district in Autism Awareness month. The puzzle piece symbol for autism represents the complexity and mystery of autism. Autism is mysterious because no one knows the causes or why the instances of autism seem to be increasing. The different colors and shapes represent the diversity of people and their families living with this disorder.
Recently there has been partial, misconstrued or inaccurate information circulating throughout the district, the community and especially on social media in regards to the budget. Despite the rumors, there is no money missing. Unfortunately, personnel in the district have been cut due to budgetary reasons, realignment of staff due to scheduling efficiencies, reduction in enrollment, and a reassessment of the district’s priorities. The staff members who have been affected by this unfortunate situation have been notified. We value and appreciate these staff members and their service and dedication to the district.
Educationally, after evaluating the district’s classrooms, we must prepare our students for the new state mandated PARCC assessment and align curriculum to the mandated Common Core State Standards. These initiatives will require technology upgrades to help our students become 21st century learners in our global society. These efforts will help to continue this great district forward.
Please know that April 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. is a Special Board Meeting in the Stafford Room of the Oxycocus School. There will be public comment. However, budget related questions will be answered at the public hearing portion of the meeting on April 29, 2014.
We welcome all parents, staff, and community members to attend our Public Hearing on April 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the STAC. This will be your opportunity to be accurately informed with the facts, to ask questions, and to learn about the positive direction of the district.
If you have any specific questions regarding the budget, please do not hesitate to contact me at 609-978-5700, Ext. 1000.
