The Board of Education requires that the pupils enrolled in this district attend school regularly in accordance with the laws of the state. The educational programs offered by the district are predicated upon the presence of the pupil and require continuity of instruction and classroom participation. Attendance shall be required of all students enrolled in the schools during the days and hours that the school is in session.
As per the Attendance Policy 5200, based on daily attendance records school officials will attempt to notify parents/guardians if a child is absent without explanation.
When a student reaches the following number of days absent in the school year, these actions may take place:
- 1-4 Days Student’s teacher will contact the parent/guardian.
- 5-9 Days Student’s assigned home-school liaison will contact the parent/guardian. Attendance officer will send a letter of notification via the parent portal.
- 10-15 Days Attendance officer will send a letter of notification via the parent portal. At this time, the principal will contact the parent/guardian to discuss and resolve their child’s attendance.
The attendance officer may pursue municipal court for a violation of N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25.
